to those creatives out there, do you sometimes feel like you just don’t know what to do anymore? like you’re stuck for words, when really you know all the words are actually just stuck in your head? at best, your ideas are coming out in a mere drizzle or pitter- patter?

personally, i run through bouts of writer’s/artist’s/baker’s block on a near weekly basis but i don’t let it get me down that much anymore, instead:

i spend time with professionals, like the Last Chance crew.
i spend time with friends, like the pigeon shop keepers you all know.
i spend time with favorite records, like The Swindonians 7″ EP.

and every once in a while i take a photo, write a story, draw a picture or bake a new creation.

these precious moments in time can provide wisdom (thanks Sean, Will, Kyle, Tim & Ryan), understanding and appreciation (thanks Lauren, Anna, Martina, Dan, Johann, Vanessa, Andrew & Hannah) and of course a little happiness (thanks… too many bands and records to list).

i also have another secret weapon for breaking the creative block. one of my closest friends recently motivated me to start keeping a diary or journal of sorts (you know, kinda like the one Lauren blogged about the other week). i can safely say that this diary has changed my life. i keep it in a secret place in my room but i’ve taken the idea into other parts of my life, and yes, you guessed it – into my creative life.

the ideas diary i carry around with me is an A4 drawing book (just like the one up there), but this one is the one that my dear friend, Kate-Anna drew on for the Cabin Fever silent auction (we have one at every event! bid for something and hopefully win the rarity!). everytime i whip it out to draw, write or stick something in it i’m newly inspired by it.

so grab one at the Bon Marché store soon (drop by the Cabin while you’re at it), draw on the cover (or give it to a friend you respect and ask them very nicely to draw on it for you), so you can keep your ideas at the ready and inspiration at the go and knock down that block.
